Manchester United Form

Manchester United sit top of the Premier League with a game in hand against rivals Man City. They are undefeated in 11 of their last 12 matches in all competitions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Man City in the League Cup. The Red Devils bounced back with a 1-0 win against Watford in the FA Cup with Scott McTominay scoring the winner.

Manchester United returned to the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Burnley thanks to Paul Pogba. They then took on Liverpool at Anfield and came away with a credible 0-0 draw.

Man United’s last match was a 2-1 win at Fulham. They fell behind in the 5th minute but struck back with goals to Edinson Cavani and Pogba.

Manchester United Team News

Manchester United are missing three back up defenders with centre backs Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones injured alongside left back Brandon Williams.

Marcus Rashford should return to the starting side at the expense of Mason Greenwood or Anthony Martial.

Midfielders Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are pushing for starts at the expense of Fred.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool are six points off the top of the Premier League table as they aim to defend the title. The Reds have drawn too many matches in recent weeks with five stalemates in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Jürgen Klopp’s side lost 1-0 at Southampton despite having 67% possession and 17-7 shots. Liverpool hammered a severely weakened Aston Villa side in the FA Cup, winning 4-1 in Birmingham with Sadio Mané (2), Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah on target.

Liverpool returned to the Premier League with a 0-0 draw against Man United at Anfield. They had 66% possession and 17-8 shots but couldn’t find a goal.

Liverpool’s last match was a 1-0 home defeat to Burnley. Once again they bossed the game with 72% possession and 27-6 shots, but their attack continues to squander multiple chances.

Liverpool Team News

Liverpool are still missing injured centre backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Joel Matip returned to first-team action to partner Fabinho in central defence which should continue here.

Midfielder Naby Keita is injured alongside forward Diogo Jota. Captain Jordan Henderson missed the Burnley match due to a lack of fitness and remains a doubt.

Expect Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to return to the starting side at the expense of Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

James Milner is a chance to start ahead of Xherdan Shaqiri in midfield or Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back.

Head to Head

Manchester United have an 88-77 advantage against Liverpool with 68 draws in 233 matches.
