Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan Tips & Preview – To-Be Serie A Champions Gear Up For The Spanish Challenge

Inter Milan will play Atletico Madrid in Spain on Wednesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash. The visitors have a slender one-goal advantage and will try to protect or extend it to book a quarterfinal berth. Marko Arnautovic scored a late winner in the first leg to give the Serie A giants a much-needed advantage.

Diego Simeone’s once-strong Atletico Madrid have struggled terribly in recent weeks, having won just once and failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five games. The club crashed out of the Copa del Rey two weeks ago after an embarrassing 0-3 defeat against Athletic Club. They also head into Wednesday’s clash following a 0-2 defeat to Cadiz in the La Liga.

Inter Milan have not lost a single game in their last 15 attempts. They are on a 13-match winning streak in all competitions since January 2024. In the last three meetings between the two clubs, Inter have won the recent two, including the first leg. The focus will entirely be on this clash as Inter are sitting 16 points clear at the top of the Serie A table.

The team news is also worrying for the home side, with a long list of injuries and very few players available for Simeone to choose from. Jose Maria Gimenez and Thomas Lemar will miss the clash, while Antoine Griezmann and Cesar Azpilicueta are doubtful after missing the Cadiz trip.

Only Pablo Barrios may be available once more after illness. On Inter’s side, goalscorer Arnautovic is out for this leg, and wingback Carlos Augusto is doubtful owing to a calf problem.
