Brighton vs Sheffield United Predictions

Sheffield United have been poor this season but they’ve shown some fight in recent matches. With both sides unable to keep clean sheets and struggling to score, this match looks set to end in a draw.

  • Brighton have drawn 3 of their last 4 home matches (Premier League).
  • Brighton have not won in their last 10 home matches (Premier League).
  • Sheffield United have lost 12 of their last 13 matches (Premier League).
  • Sheffield United drew 1-1 with Brighton in their last match (Premier League).

Head to Head

Sheffield United lead 5-1 in their eight matches against Brighton. There have been two draws, including their last encounter which ended 1-1 in February 2020.

Brighton Form

Brighton’s results have continued to underwhelm this season as they find themselves 16th on the English Premier League table. They are on 11 points, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Graham Potter’s side continues to create opportunities and often dominate possession but putting the ball in the back of the net has proven a problem. Brighton have been unfortunate in a number of matches.

After beating Aston Villa 2-1 away late in November, Brighton have failed to win. They were impressive in a 1-1 home draw against Liverpool but their inconsistency kicked in again as they lost 2-1 to Southampton at home.

Brighton have failed to score in their last two matches of which the first was a 3-0 defeat at Leicester. Their last match ended 0-0 at Fulham in a match where they created very few scoring opportunities.

Brighton Team News

Graham Potter got a bit boost in midweek with the return of right-back Tariq Lamptey and midfielder Adam Lallana. Lalana may be rested for this match given the short turnaround and his horrendous injury record.

Robert Sanchez may continue in goal after keeping a clean sheet against Fulham.

Sheffield United Form

After an incredible season last time out, Sheffield United have hit rock bottom. They are struggling to score goals and to keep the opposition out at the other end. A total of one point from 13 matches tells the story.

The Blades’ only point this Premier League season came in a 1-1 home draw against Fulham, nine matches ago. It is worth noting that Chris Wilder’s men have only lost by more than one goal in one of their last five matches.

Fellow relegation strugglers, West Brom beat The Blades 1-0 at the end of November and that was followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City. Their only heavy defeat in recent weeks came at Southampton as the Saints won 3-0.

Sheffield United’s last matched ended in a 3-2 defeat at home to Manchester United. Despite David McGoldrick giving them an early lead, Manchester United were leading 2-1 by the break, and 3-1 soon after. The hosts showed some fight as McGoldrick scored his second with four minutes to play but they couldn’t find the equaliser.

Sheffield United Team News

Centre-back Jack O’Connell is still out injured and continues to be a massive miss for The Blades. Oli McBurnie is expected to make a return in the forward areas after missing the match against Manchester United.

Sander Berge went off early against Man United with a hamstring injury. He is likely to be out for some time.

David McGoldrick scored twice in the last match and is almost certain to start. John Lundstram is a good option for Chris Wilder in midfield to freshen things up.
