Aston Villa and Burnley lock horns in the Premier League on Thursday. Will Burnley's improved form continue at Villa Park or will Villa string two wins together for the first time since October?

Aston Villa ended a two-game losing run with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday. Anwar El-Ghazi scored 94th minute penalty at Molineux to win a tight encounter.

It was a welcome win for Dean Smith’s side, who had lost four of their previous five matches prior to taking on their Midlands rivals.

Villa suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Leeds and Southampton, leaking seven goals in the process. They then went to Arsenal and recorded a 3-0 win.

But the Jekyll and Hyde performances continued as they lost to Brighton and West Ham with both games ending 2-1.

Aston Villa will be without Douglas Luiz, who is suspended after being sent off against Wolves. Matty Cash is also banned for accumulation of bookings.

Winger Trezeguet is ruled out with a hamstring injury along with striker Wesley, but midfielder Ross Barkley is closing in on a return.

Kortney Hause, Tom Heaton and Frederic Guilbert are also all back in training after absences. The latter could come in for the suspended Cash.

Burnley Form


Burnley moved out of the relegation zone after defeating 10-man Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates on Sunday. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's own goal handed Sean Dyche's side all three points.

The surprise win continued an upturn in Burnley's form with the Clarets losing just one of their last five matches.

In that period, Burnley played out a dull 0-0 draw with Brighton, beat Crystal Palace 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Everton. The only defeat came courtesy of a 5-0 loss at Manchester City.

Midfielder Jack Cork remains on the sidelines, but defenders Dale Stephens and Phil Bardsley could be available after lay-offs. Midfielder Johann Gudmundsson is also a chance of returning.
