England striker Callum Wilson has confirmed his departure from Newcastle United, bringing an end to his five-year spell on Tyneside.

Wilson joined Newcastle in a £20 million deal from Bournemouth in September 2020, scoring 49 goals and providing 11 assists in 130 games for the club.

The 33-year-old Monday announced his departure from the Magpies on social media, thanking fans for their support over the years.

"To all you Magpies, it's time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years at the Toon," Wilson said in a statement. "Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.

"I am so proud to have worn the iconic No. 9 shirt and to have added a little more history to it. Scoring at the Gallowgate end really is as special as they say. All good things come to an end, but there's no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my family's hearts."

Wilson, whose Newcastle career was hampered by injuries, lost his starting spot to Swedish striker Alexander Isak. He failed to find the back of the net in 18 Premier League games last season and won the League Cup with the Magpies, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
