Germany will be aiming to underline their status as one of the tournament favourites when they face Poland in their opening Group C fixture at the UEFA European Women's Championship.

The Germans are the record winners of this competition and have been in imperious form heading into this year's edition. They also have a good record against the Poles and should claim the upper hand here.

Germany are the record winners of the Women's Euros having won the title eight times, including six straight wins between 1995 and 2013. They were also beaten finalists in 2022 and will be keen to return to their perch this time around.

It has been a solid build-up to the tournament for Germany, who are unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions. Christian Wuck’s team are unbeaten in the UEFA Nations League and wrapped up their league phase campaign with a 6-0 victory over Austria to reach the finals.

Lea Schuller has been the standout player for Germany lately, scoring seven goals in the last five matches. The forward leads a prolific attack that has been at least two goals up at the break in three of the last four matches while four of the last five fixtures have produced over 1.5 goals in the first half.

Poland are making their first appearance at the Women's Euros and will be looking to make their mark in a group that also includes Denmark and Sweden. They head into their opening fixture off the back of a 4-0 victory over Ukraine in their final pre-tournament friendly.

The Poles have been in good form in the build-up to the tournament, picking up nine wins from their last 10 matches across all competitions. There have been other one-sided results in that run like the 4-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

While things appear smooth for Poland lately, a clash against Germany represents a major upgrade in quality of opposition. Nina Patalon’s attacking style could also play into the hands of the record winners.

Germany have won the previous two matches against Poland and did the double during the qualifiers. The Germans claimed a 4-1 home victory in the first meeting before a 3-1 away win in the reverse fixture.
