Spain will be aiming to lay down a marker when they begin their UEFA European Women's Championship campaign with a Group B clash against Portugal.

The Spaniards have been almost unstoppable lately, breezing past their opponents with ease. They should be too strong for their Portuguese counterparts and are expected to claim the victory here.

Spain have been the dominant force in women's football in the last few years and are the current World Champions. They are also well on course to defend their UEFA Nations League title after finishing top of Group A3 to reach the 2025 finals.

Portugal are coming off a 0-0 draw with Nigeria in their final warm-up game before the Euros. They dominated the possession and had several opportunities to score but failed to find their cutting edge in front of goal.

While there was promise in the performance, the result is consistent with Portugal’s recent struggles as they are winless in their last five matches. Francisco Neto’s team had suffered four straight defeats prior to that draw with Nigeria, including a 6-0 thrashing against England in the Nations League.

Portugal may have fired blanks in their last match but they often show some quality in attack and have scored in seven of their last 10 matches. Three of their last five matches across all competitions have produced over 1.5 goals in the first half.

Spain have won all five previous matches against Portugal. The Spaniards did the double over their rivals in the Nations League earlier this year, claiming a 4-2 away victory before picking up a 7-1 home win in the second leg.

Spain and Portugal often serve up high-scoring contests and with their last two meetings producing over 1.5 goals in the first half, a repeat could be on the cards. Pina has been the woman in form for the world champions lately and having been on target in the last two matches against the Portuguese, could be backed to find the net once again.

The Spaniards often come out on top in this fixture but tend to concede. A win and both teams to score could be considered.
