Euro 2024 Qualifiers - Georgia vs Luxembourg Tips & Preview – The Crusaders And Red Lions Set Sights On Euro Debut

In the first semifinal of Path C, Georgia will host Luxembourg in a match that is expected to be a closely-fought full-contact contest. Georgia finished fourth in the Euro Qualifier Group A, while Luxembourg nabbed an impressive third-place finish in the Euro Qualifier Group J. Their performances in the UEFA Nations League have kept the two teams alive in the qualifiers.

Georgia were placed with Spain, Scotland, Norway, and Cyprus. Their qualifying voyage started with a 1-1 draw against Norway before a late goal against Cyprus sealed a crucial 2-1 win for the Crusaders. After that, the nation lost three consecutive games against Scotland, Spain and Norway.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s brace almost handed the Crusaders a shock victory over Scotland, but Lawrence Shankland netted a 93rd-minute equaliser. In the final match of the group, Kvaratskhelia was on target again, but the match was against Spain, and eventually, the three-time Euro winners walked away with a 3-1 victory.

Luxembourg won five of their ten matches in Group J and lost only three. They shared the group with Portugal, Slovakia, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Liechtenstein. Two of their victories came in the last two games. The Red Lions thrashed Bosnia 4-1 before handing Liechtenstein a 1-0 defeat.

Two of their three losses came on the second and sixth matchdays against Portugal. The 2016 Euro winners beat Luxembourg 6-0 almost a year ago, and in the reverse fixture in September, the scoreline was even more humiliating, as the prolific Portuguese battered the Red Lions 9-0, with six players on the scoresheet.
