Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa have lost 5 of their last 7 matches in all competitions. They lost 3 in a row before getting back to winning ways with a 2-0 home win against Newcastle.

Dean Smith’s side then lost 3-2 at Burnley despite having 62% possession, 18-10 shots and 2.71-0.72 expected goals.

Aston Villa were fortunate to win 1-0 win in Southampton. They withstood some heavy pressure in the second half and fortunate to keep a clean sheet.

Villa’s last match was a 3-1 home defeat against West Ham. Ollie Watkins hit the woodwork in the first half and got them back into the game in the 81st minute, but they conceded again 2 minutes later.

Aston Villa Team News

Aston Villa centre back Kortney Hause is injured and Brazilian striker Wesley is slowly making his way back having been sidelined for over a year.

Villa recently signed Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson, he came off the bench against West Ham and could start here.

Expect winger Bertrand Traoré to replace Anwar El Ghazi in the starting side.

Ollie Watkins is starting to find some form up front with 3 goals in his last 4 matches.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal’s unbeaten six-game run came to an end in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the FA Cup. They failed to take their chances at St Mary's as Mikel Arteta rested some key players.

Arteta brought Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette into the starting side for another game in Southampton in the Premier League and won 3-1.

The Gunners then hosted Man United and came away with a 0-0 draw.

Arsenal were in complete control at Wolverhampton on Wednesday and should have been more than 1-0 up when David Luiz was sent off in the 44th minute. They fell 2-1 behind and went down to 9 men when goalkeeper Bernd Leno was sent off in the 72nd minute.

Arsenal Team News

Bernd Leno is suspended with Runar Alex Runarsson likely to start ahead of an unfit Mat Ryan.

Arsenal have appealed David Luiz's red card. If it is unsuccessful expect Gabriel to partner Rob Holding in central defence. Pablo Mari is close to returning from injury and left back Kieren Tierney is doubtful.

Emile Smith Rowe competes with new signing Martin Odegaard for an attacking midfield spot.

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his return off the bench against Wolves and should start here.

Head to Head

Arsenal have an 83-68 advantage against Aston Villa with 45 draws in 196 matches.

Arsenal won seven straight encounters but Aston Villa have won the last two. Villa won 1-0 at home last season and 3-0 in London in November.

Predictions

Arsenal can overtake Aston Villa with a win in Birmingham and are likely to take that opportunity. Villa’s defence is looking shaky with fatigue and lack of squad depth starting to take a toll.
