Dutch Giants PSV Eindhoven can extend their unbeaten streak to nine games in all competitions if they dodge defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
- Borussia Dortmund vs PSV Eindhoven – Tips and Prediction
PSV Eindhoven have arrived in Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw after Luuk de Jong's strike cancelled out Donyell Malen’s opener for Dortmund.
The Eredivisie leaders are itching to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2007. The 1987/88 Champions League winners are playing fantastic football this season under manager Peter Bosz. They are ten points clear at the top of their domestic league table and have not lost a game in their last eight outings.
Since the first leg, PSV have won two and drawn one of the three games they have played, including a 7-1 drubbing of PEC Zwolle. The German side, on the other hand, have had a topsy-turvy season and are placed fourth in the Bundesliga, a whopping 20 points off league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
After a stalemate in the first leg, Edin Terzic’s side were beaten 2-3 at home by Hoffenheim but managed to turn things around and secure victories against Union Berlin and Werder Bremen. Despite their struggles in the German league, Dortmund have played well in Europe. They finished at the top of Group F, losing just one match in the process.
The hosts will be without centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck, who is suspended for this tie, and forward Sebastien Haller, who is injured. On the other hand, PSV will be without Noa Lang, who is out for the rest of the season, and Joey Veerman and Ismael Saibari are doubtful for the clash.
Borussia Dortmund vs PSV Eindhoven – Tips and Prediction
With their impressive form in Europe this season, the hosts are the favourites to advance in this year’s Champions League. Despite the impressive form and the unbeaten run for PSV, they lack European experience, and the numerous draws they have faced in recent games (three in their last eight) show that they lack the finishing required to get the job done.
The game will be tightly contested, and the number of goals will be low. However, the bookies favour Dortmund to clinch a crucial, narrow victory.
