Belgium square off against Italy in their opening Group B fixture at the UEFA European Women's Championship, with both teams targeting a positive start.

The Belgians have been erratic in the build-up to the competition, often struggling against the top sides. The Italians have looked a bit more consistent and should have the upper hand in Thursday's clash.

Belgium head into the Group B opener off the back of a 2-0 victory over Greece in their final warm-up game. They were largely untroubled in the contest, with goals in each half from Tessa Wullaert and Jill Janssens earning them the win.

Elisabet Gunnarsdottir’s team will be keen to use that result as a spark for their Euros campaign as their overall recent form has been unconvincing, losing five of their last eight matches. There have been some heavy defeats in that run, like the 5-0 thrashing in France and the 5-1 home loss to Spain.

That result is part of a solid run of form for Italy, who are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions. Andrea Soncin’s team have picked up six wins in that run, including a 3-0 Nations League victory in Denmark back in April.

Italy have no problems going forward and have scored in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions. Seven of their last 10 matches have produced over 2.5 goals while they have failed to keep a clean sheet in five of the last eight fixtures.
