Kyrgios: “I Can’t See Him Doing Another Full Year”

Nick Kyrgios believes Novak Djokovic is nearing the end of his iconic career. Speaking on the All on the Table podcast, Kyrgios revealed a revealing exchange he had with the 24-time Grand Slam champion at Indian Wells earlier this year.

“I asked him, ‘Why are you here?’ and he just said, ‘I don’t know,’” Kyrgios shared. “That was the first time I sensed he really misses his family. I can’t see him playing another full year.”

Kyrgios expressed admiration for Djokovic’s professionalism but questioned his motivation to continue, especially with a family waiting at home. “He’s done it all. If I was his partner, I’d be angry. You’ve won everything — go enjoy life.”

Djokovic Admits Future Is Uncertain

Djokovic, 38, has yet to confirm retirement plans but recently offered hints that the end might be near. After his semifinal loss at Roland Garros, he told the crowd: “This could have been the last match ever I played here – I don’t know... Twelve months at this point in my career is quite a long time.”

While he remains motivated by the pursuit of more Grand Slams, Djokovic has only one major final since his 2023 US Open win. The Geneva Open and last summer’s Olympic gold remain his only titles in nearly two years.

With Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner emerging as the sport’s new leaders, Djokovic’s path back to dominance appears steeper than ever — and his window to chase history may be closing.
