Breakthrough Boys

Roman Burruchaga

🇵🇪 Ignacio Buse and 🇦🇷 Román Andrés Burruchaga both scored career-best results by reaching their first-ever ATP quarterfinals.

  • Buse held firm in a gritty 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Kamil Majchrzak in Gstaad, coming back from a poor start to dominate the decider.
  • Burruchaga had earlier defeated wild card Zahráj in three sets, backing up his strong Challenger form with a confident ATP win.

These are landmark wins for both South Americans as they break new ground on clay.

Ruud Regroups

After a stinging 6-0 set loss at Roland Garros, Casper Ruud returned to winning ways in Gstaad. The Norwegian outlasted Dominic Stricker 7-5, 7-6(8) in a tight encounter, saving two set points in the tiebreak to avoid a third.

Ruud’s trademark forehand depth and composure late in the second were signs he may be rebuilding confidence in time for the summer swing.

Griekspoor's Houdini Escape

Tallon Griekspoor

Tallon Griekspoor pulled off one of the most improbable comebacks of the season in Bastad, rallying from 4-6, 3-5 down and saving five match points to edge past Andrea Pellegrino 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-3.

The Dutchman looked out of sorts for much of the contest, struggling with depth and timing. But when staring down elimination, he found his first serve and painted the lines with fearless aggression. After saving two match points at 3-5 and three more in the second set tiebreak, Griekspoor flipped the momentum entirely in the third.

Misolic Survives Epic Battle

Austria’s Filip Misolic edged past Danish wildcard Elmer Møller in a bruising three-setter: 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. The match stretched over two hours and featured 32 break point chances between the pair.
