Morocco are on the brink of progressing to the knockout phase of the Africa Cup of Nations as they battle Zambia in their final Group A fixture at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.

The Atlas Lions stumbled last time out but are still in control of their own fate in the group. They should be too strong for the Southern African side, who seem out of sorts at the moment.

Zambia were held to a 0-0 draw by Comoros in their previous Group A fixture. It was a poor performance from Moses Sichone’s team, who failed to muster a single attempt on target throughout the contest.

That was the second draw in the AFCON for Zambia, who battled to a 1-1 scoreline with Mali in their opening fixture. The Chipolopolo are still in the mix for a round of 16 spot as a win on Monday will see them progress.

While Zambia have a good chance to progress, their overall form does not inspire much hope. They are winless in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions, suffering seven defeats on this run.

Morocco are also coming off a draw, having been held 1-1 by Mali in their previous fixture. Brahim Diaz’s penalty in first-half injury time gave them the lead, but they were breached after the break.

That result brought an end to Morocco’s world record run of 19 consecutive victories. However, Walid Regragui's team are still on the brink of qualifying from the group, and a win on Monday guarantees top spot.

Morocco have a knack for scoring first and have grabbed the first half’s opening goal in both their matches in Group A. The Atlas Lions have also led at the break in two of their last three matches across all competitions, while they have won to nil in seven of their last eight matches across all competitions.

Morocco have 12 wins while Zambia have picked up five victories, with two draws in the last 17 matches. The Atlas Lions did the double when both teams met in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, winning 2-1 at home before a 2-0 away victory in the reverse fixture.

Zambia v Morocco

Morocco will consider the draw with Mali as a minor blip and will be confident of getting back on track. They will be targeting a fast start and having scored the first half's opening goal in their two group matches, a similar pattern could be on the cards.

The Atlas Lions have led at the break in two of their last three matches and could be set for a repeat here. Having also won to nil in seven of their last eight matches, a similar outcome could also be considered.
