Belgium are aiming to reclaim top spot in Group J of the World Cup qualifiers when they travel to the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday.

The Belgians are also hoping to bounce back from a slight stumble last time out and given their record in the fixture, will be confident of claiming the upper hand. They should have the edge over the hosts, who appear to be out of sorts at the moment.

Wales News

Wales head into this clash off the back of a 3-0 defeat to England in a friendly on Thursday. That was the second straight defeat for Craig Bellamy’s team, who also suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Canada in another friendly.

Meanwhile, things have been pretty smooth for Wales in the World Cup qualifiers, having picked up three wins and a draw from five matches so far. Their last picture was a 1-0 away victory over Kazakhstan.

Wales have scored in seven of their last 10 matches across all competitions, but their open style often leaves them exposed at the back. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of the last eight matches on this run, while five of those fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.

Belgium News

Belgium dropped points for the first time in the qualifiers after playing out a 0-0 draw with North Macedonia. While Rudi Garcia's team have dropped to second in the table, the good news is that they are only one point off the pace and are also unbeaten after six matches in Group G.

Prior to that draw, Belgium had picked up three straight wins, including successive 6-0 victories over Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan. However, some road improvements are required, with the victory over Liechtenstein their only win in the last 10 away matches.

The wins over Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan highlight Belgium's attacking quality, while three of their last four matches across all competitions have produced over 2.5 goals. However, they often struggle defensively on their travels and are without a clean sheet in six of their last seven away matches.

Head to Head

Belgium have four wins while Wales have picked up two victories, with four draws in the last 10 matches. The Belgians have won the last two meetings and claimed a 4-3 home victory in the reverse fixture back in June.

Verdict

Having won the last two matches against Wales and given their unbeaten status in the qualifiers, Belgium could be backed to claim the win here. Both teams have scored in their last two meetings and could be set for a repeat.

Belgium have secured a win and over 2.5 goals in three of their last four matches across all competitions, and a similar outcome is on the cards here.
