Viborg vs Copenhagen
Copenhagen begin their Danish Superliga title defence with a trip to Viborg on the opening weekend.
The champions had a mixed preseason but tend to kick on once the campaign starts. They boast a solid record in this fixture and should claim the upper hand on Friday.
Viborg News
Viborg had a disappointing 2024-25 campaign as they failed to make the championship playoffs. They will be keen to put all of that behind them and looked solid in preseason, winning their last two matches, including a 2-0 victory over Aalborg in their final warm-up game.
The problem for Viborg coming into the new season is that their coaching position remains vacant following Jakob Poulsen’s departure at the end of last season. However, they will still look to maintain some of their home form from last term, having won five of their final eight Superliga matches in front of their fans.
There are often goals whenever Viborg play at home as they have scored and conceded in seven of their last eight Superliga matches at Energi Viborg Arena. Six of those fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.
Copenhagen News
Copenhagen have been the dominant force in Denmark in recent years, winning three of the last four Super Liga titles. They also did the league and cup double last season and will be the team to beat once again.
The champions had a slow start to preseason but picked up their form and claimed a 1-0 victory over Hamburger SV in their final warm-up game. Jacob Neestrup's team will be looking to channel their away form in the final weeks of last season having won five of their last six league matches on the road.
Goals are usually not a problem for Copenhagen, who have scored in their last seven Superliga away matches. Five of the fixtures on this run have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Copenhagen are often superior in this fixture and were unbeaten in three of the four matches against Viborg last season. The champions did the double in the Danish Cup semi-final on their way to winning the title, with both matches ending 1-0.
Verdict
Viborg often struggle against the champions and come into this clash with the added disadvantage of not having a permanent manager at the helm. Copenhagen have won the last two meetings and should claim the upper hand once again.
Both teams were on target in their league meetings last season, while the clash at Energi Viborg Arena produced over 2.5 goals. Friday's clash is expected to produce a similar outcome.
