FA Cup winners Crystal Palace will have to wait to discover if they can participate in next season’s Europa League after UEFA revealed it needed more time to make a decision.

Palace’s place in the competition is under threat due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules, preventing teams under the same ownership from participating in the same European competition.

Palace co-owner John Textor, who has agreed to sell his 44% stake in the club to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, also has a stake in French club Lyon, who qualified for the Europa League.

A verdict on the situation was expected on Monday, but the European football body has chosen to delay its decision following Lyon’s appeal against their relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial issues.

The seven-time French champions have agreed to forfeit their place in the competition should their appeal be unsuccessful.

UEFA, meanwhile, has not given a timeline for the verdict, but have stated that further details will be announced “in due course”.
