DR Congo international Axel Tuanzebe is suing his former club, Manchester United, in a clinical negligence lawsuit after reportedly filing a case with the High Court last week.

The lawsuit, accusing United of alleged negligent medical advice, is in relation to a period from July 2022 and involves an unknown injury. It is regarded as a high-value claim, with the defender looking for more than £1 million in payment for damages.

Tuanzebe rose through the youth ranks at United and made 37 first-team appearances for the club he joined as an eight-year-old. His time in Manchester, however, was riddled with injuries, dating back to a hip problem he picked up ahead of a match against Liverpool in 2019.

He returned to action after spending time on the sidelines but was ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury he sustained against Colchester United in the League Cup in December 2019.

After several injuries, including one that limited him to only five appearances while on loan at Stoke City in 2022-23, he secured a move to Ipswich Town on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract, leaving United after 17 years.

The 27-year-old played 44 times for the Tractor Boys in two seasons across both the Championship and Premier League, where he made 22 appearances last term as they got relegated from the top flight.

Tuanzebe joined Burnley last month on a free transfer after refusing a new deal at Ipswich and will be looking to cement a place in Scott Parker's side after a historic outing last campaign earned them immediate promotion to the Premier League.
