Switzerland and Norway will be targeting a positive start when they meet in their opening Group A fixture at the UEFA European Women's Championship.

Both teams will be keen to put their recent issues behind them as neither side has been at their best lately. However, the Norwegians are showing a bit more quality and given their superior record in this fixture, should have the upper hand here.

Switzerland have never won the Women's Euros and as hosts of this year's competition, will be keen to make their mark. They head into their Group A opener off the back of a 4-1 victory over Czech Republic in a pre-tournament friendly.

That was a timely return to winning ways for Switzerland, who had been winless in their previous eight matches across all competitions. Pia Sundhage’s team had been beaten six times in that run, with a 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Norway among their results.

The win over Czech Republic shows there is some quality in the Switzerland attack. However, the problem is a lack of discipline at the back having failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions, with three of the last four producing over 2.5 goals.

Norway are two-time European champions, although their last title came in 1993. They were beaten finalists in 2013 and will be desperate to go one better this time around.

The Norwegians head into their opening fixture off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Sweden in a friendly. However, manager Gemma Grainger will consider that a minor setback having been unbeaten in seven of their previous nine matches, picking up five wins in that run.

Norway have quality going forward and have scored in six of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, they have shown some defensive vulnerability lately and are without a clean sheet in five of their last seven matches.

Norway have three wins while Switzerland have been victorious just twice, with two draws from seven previous matches. However, the Norwegians did the double over their rivals in this year's UEFA Nations League, winning 2-1 at home before a 1-0 away victory in the second leg.

Neither defence has shown much solidity lately and both teams could be set to score here. With three Switzerland’s last four matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat could also be considered.

Norway have already claimed two victories over Switzerland this year and will be confident of earning the upper hand once again.
