Switzerland are aiming to build on a fine result in their opening fixture when they host Slovenia in Group B of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Swiss are looking like the team to beat in this group and will be keen to continue as they have started. With the visitors a bit unconvincing on their travels, a home win could be expected here.

Switzerland News

Switzerland were rampant in their opening fixture, easing to a 4-0 home victory over Kosovo. All four goals came in the first half, with Breel Embolo netting a brace while Manuel Akanji and Silvan Widmer were also on target.

That result extends a fine run for Switzerland, who have won their last four matches across all competitions. Murat Yakin’s team have also done some good work at home, winning their last two matches in front of their fans.

Switzerland have a knack for fast starts and have scored the first goal in the first half in their last four matches. They also adopt an open style of play, which has seen five of their last six matches across all competitions produce over 2.5 goals.

Slovenia News

Slovenia head into this clash off the back of a 2-2 home draw with Sweden in their opening fixtures. They fought back from behind twice, with goals from Sandi Lovric and Zan Vipotnik earning them a share of the spoils.

Manager Matjaz Kek will be pleased with the performance as the result means Slovenia are now unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, a little improvement is needed on their travels, having failed to win five of their last eight away matches.

As evidenced by their opening fixture, Slovenia often adopt an attacking style which tends to make for a thrilling contest. Their last two matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Head to Head

Switzerland have five wins while Slovenia have picked up just two victories, with one draw in seven previous matches. Both teams met during the Euro 2016 qualifiers, with the Swiss claiming a 3-2 victory.

Verdict

Switzerland have a swagger about them lately and have won their last four matches comfortably. They will be confident of getting the better of Slovenia, who often find things difficult on their travels.

It is likely to be an open contest on Monday, and with five of Switzerland's last six matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat is expected here. The Swiss should also maintain their record of scoring the first goal in the first half, having played out a similar pattern in their last four fixtures.
