It is a battle of former champions as South Africa face Cameroon in an Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash at the Al Barid Stadium.

Both teams produced similar records in the group stage and come into this clash looking evenly matched. With little to separate them here, Sunday’s clash is likely to go beyond regulation time.

South Africa can be pleased with their campaign so far, as they qualified second behind Egypt in Group B. Two wins from three matches will give Hugo Broos' team plenty of confidence heading into the knockout phase.

Bafana Bafana rounded off their group stage campaign with a 3-2 victory over Zimbabwe. They were given a stern test by their regional rivals, but Tshepang Moremi, Lyle Foster and Oswin Appollis earned them all three points.

Cameroon may be five-time African champions, but their showings so far in Morocco have been slightly surprising given their issues prior to the tournament. David Pagou's team appear to have put those distractions behind them and qualified for the round of 16 unbeaten in three group stage matches.

The Indomitable Lions finished second in Group F only on goal difference, having picked up two wins and a draw from their three matches. They will head into this clash off the back of a 2-1 victory over Mozambique.

Goals have not been a problem for Cameroon so far, having scored in all three group stage matches. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last two fixtures on this run.

South Africa have never lost in this fixture, with two wins and three draws from five previous matches. Both teams drew their two meetings during the 2017 AFCON qualifiers, playing out a 2-2 scoreline in the first clash before battling to a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture.
