It is a chance to become the top team on the continent as Senegal and Morocco square off in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday.

Both teams have impressed in the competition as they seek only their second AFCON titles. A close encounter is on the cards here but backed by a vocal home crowd and given their record against the West Africans, the Atlas Lions should come out on top in this one.

Senegal have built an impressive record at the AFCON in recent years and are set for their third final since 2019. They won the title in 2021 and will be targeting a second win in Morocco.

It has been a solid campaign for Senegal, who are unbeaten so far in the competition. Pape Bouna Thiaw's team claimed a 1-0 victory over Egypt to reach the final, with Sadio Mane getting the only goal.

Senegal's campaign at this year's AFCON has been driven by a solid defence that has kept clean sheets in three of the last four matches. The last two fixtures on this run have produced under 1.5 goals in both halves.

Morocco News

Morocco have also only won one AFCON title and last reached the final of Africa's showpiece back in 2004. However, having been the continent's top-ranked team for over a year and recently setting a world record 19-match winning run, victory on Sunday will be the crowning moment for this generation of players.

The Atlas Lions have been among the best teams in this year’s AFCON and are unbeaten in their six matches so far, winning at least one half in five of them. Walid Regragui's team needed penalties before seeing off Nigeria in the semi-final after battling to a 0-0 draw in normal time.

Morocco have maintained a solid defence that has conceded only once in this competition, and they will be feeling extra confident after stifling the free-scoring Nigerians. They have been involved in tight encounters lately, with four of their last five matches producing under 1.5 goals in both halves.

Morocco have 11 wins while Senegal have been victorious three times, with four draws from 18 previous matches. Both teams met in a friendly back in 2020, with the North Africans claiming a 3-1 victory.

Senegal v Morocco

Morocco have a solid record against Senegal and with the vocal home crowd behind them, should do enough to win the final on Sunday. The North Africans have also won at least one half in five of their last six matches and could be set for a repeat.

Both teams often maintain their defensive discipline and could be set to serve up a tight contest here. With four of Morocco’s last five matches producing under 1.5 goals in both halves, a similar pattern could be in the cards.
