Salzburg are aiming to continue their progress in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers as they host Club Brugge in the first leg of the third round.

The Austrians have looked solid lately and will come into the clash with some confidence. They should do enough to avoid defeat against the Belgians, who appear a bit off colour at the moment.

Salzburg News

Salzburg claimed a 5-2 victory over Brann to progress to the third round of the qualifiers. Thomas Letsch's team eased to a 4-1 away win in the first leg before holding out for a 1-1 draw in the second meeting.

Both results are part of a solid run of form for Salzburg, who are unbeaten in five of their last six matches across all competitions. They have picked up three wins on this run and were held to a 2-2 draw at Ried in a domestic fixture last weekend.

Salzburg are still maintaining their open style of play and have found the net in their last six matches across all competitions, opening the scoring in two of the last three fixtures. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in five matches on this run.

Club Brugge News

Club Brugge are making their first appearance in this season’s qualifiers, having drawn a bye from the previous round. They were one of the surprise teams last term, reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

Things have not been particularly smooth for Club Brugge lately, having lost two of their last three matches. Nicky Hayen's team will travel to Salzburg off the back of a 2-1 defeat at Mechelen in a domestic fixture last weekend.

Like the hosts, Club Brugge often like to play on the front foot and have scored in their last five matches across all competitions. However, they are without a clean sheet in the last four fixtures on this run.

Head to Head

Salzburg and Club Brugge met in the Europa League in 2019, with both teams winning the home leg of the tie. The Belgians claimed a 2-1 victory in the first meeting while the Austrians triumphed 4-0 in the second clash.

Verdict

Salzburg are looking solid at the moment, while Club Brugge have lost two of their last three matches. Having gone unbeaten in five of their last six fixtures, the Austrians can earn a win or draw in Wednesday's first leg.

Neither defence has shown much solidity lately, and both teams could be backed to score. Salzburg have opened the scoring in two of their last three matches and should grab the first goal here.
