Portugal are on the brink of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they host Armenia in a Group F qualifying clash on Sunday.

The Portuguese will also be extra fired up as they look to bounce back from a defeat last time out. They are unbeaten at home and should be too strong for the visitors, who have been out of their depth in this group.

Portugal lost for the first time in the qualifiers, suffering a 2-0 away defeat to the Republic of Ireland in their previous fixture. They fell two goals down before the break and could not find a way back, especially following the second-half red card to Cristiano Ronaldo.

That result means Portugal are not home and dry in Group F, sitting just two points above second-placed Hungary. The good news is that a win on Sunday will secure a place at the World Cup, and Roberto Martinez's team are unbeaten in their two home fixtures in the group.

Even without the suspended Ronaldo, Portugal are unlikely to have problems in attack, having won by three or more goals in two of their last four matches. They have also scored over 2.5 goals in two of those four fixtures.

Armenia are currently on a three-match losing run and were beaten 1-0 at home by Hungary in their previous fixture. Yegishe Melikyan’s team are also winless in nine of their last 10 away matches across all competitions, losing their last two qualifying matches on the road.

Among the issues for Armenia is a lack of cutting-edge in attack, having failed to score in four of their last five qualifying matches. They are also prone to heavy defeats like the 5-0 home thrashing against Portugal.

Portugal have never lost in this fixture, with five wins and two draws from seven previous matches against Armenia. The hosts eased to a 5-0 away victory in the reverse fixture.

Portugal v Armenia

Even in the absence of Ronaldo, Portugal still boast enough attacking quality to dominate the Armenians. Having scored over 2.5 goals in two of their last four home matches, a repeat could be on the cards here.

With Armenia failing to score in four of their last five matches, Portugal will be targeting a win to nil like they got in the reverse fixture. Given that result in the first meeting, a handicap bet could also be considered.
