Arsenal begin their EFL Cup campaign with a trip to Vale Park for a third-round clash against Port Vale.

The hosts are showing some good form at the moment, but should struggle with the superior quality of the Premier League side. The Gunners are expected to be too strong for the League One team and will be targeting a dominant win.

Port Vale News

Port Vale are in the EFL Cup third round after claiming a 1-0 victory over Championship side Birmingham City. They will go into Wednesday's clash off the back of a 2-1 home victory over Mansfield Town in a League One fixture last weekend.

That result will be pleasing to manager Darren Moore as Port Vale have looked a bit off colour at home lately. They have lost three of their last five matches across all competitions at Vale Park.

Port Vale often adopt an open style of play, which tends to produce goals in their matches. Three of their last four fixtures across all competitions have served up over 1.5 first-half goals.

Arsenal News

Arsenal are joining the EFL Cup for the first time this season, having drawn a bye in the previous rounds. They travel to Vale Park off the back of a 1-1 home draw with Manchester City in a Premier League clash on Sunday.

While manager Mikel Arteta would have preferred the win, the result means Arsenal are unbeaten in five of their six matches across all competitions this season. The Gunners have picked up four wins on this run, with a 5-0 victory over Leeds United among their results.

Arsenal are expected to make changes to their team, with Bukayo Saka likely to earn a run-out as he pushes to regain full fitness after a spell on the sidelines. The forward is often a focal point of their attack and was in good form before getting injured.

Head to Head

This will be the first-ever meeting between Port Vale and Arsenal.

Verdict

There is a gap in quality between both sides, and Wednesday's clash is likely to be a mismatch. Arsenal will be keen to replicate the performance against Leeds United and could be set for another dominant win here.

Saka often plays a pivotal role in Arsenal’s attacks and could be backed to get on the score sheet here. With three of Port Vale’s last four matches across all competitions producing over 1.5 first-half goals, a repeat could be on the cards.
