Roma begin their campaign in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League as they travel to Nice for a match-day one fixture on Wednesday.

The Italians are enjoying a solid start to the season and will be keen to carry their good form into Europe. They will be confident of holding their own against the hosts, who are off colour at the moment.

Nice are in the Europa League after crashing in the Champions League qualifiers. They were beaten home and away by Benfica for a 4-0 aggregate defeat.
 
That result highlights how Nice's campaign has gone so far as they have lost five of their last eight matches across all competitions, including a 4-1 defeat to Brest last weekend. However, it is not all doom and gloom for Franck Haise’s team, who have won their last two home matches.
 
Nice have struggled to maintain their discipline at the back this season, failing to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches across all competitions. However, they have scored in the last four fixtures on this run.

Roma went straight to the league phase of the Europa League and did not have to come through the qualifiers. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team have made a bright start to the season, winning three of their last four matches. 

The Italians will travel to the Allianz Riviera off the back of a 1-0 victory over Lazio in a Serie A fixture last weekend, with Lorenzo Pellegrini getting the only goal. That was their second straight away win, having also beaten Pisa 1-0 in their previous fixture on the road. 

Goals have not been a problem for Roma, who have scored first in three of their last four matches. They have also won at least one half in three of those four fixtures.

The only previous meeting between Nice and Roma was a friendly in 2022, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Nice are struggling to find their rhythm this season, while Roma will be looking to carry their fine domestic form into Europe. The Italians have won at least one half in three of their last four matches and could be set for a similar pattern.
 
Roma have also scored first in three of their four matches this season and could be backed to grab the opening goal on Wednesday. With both teams showing some attacking quality, they could be set to score here.
