Morocco are aiming to build on their win on the opening day of the AFCON when they face Mali in their second Group A fixture at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah. 

The Moroccans are on an impressive run at the moment and are looking almost unstoppable. They should get the better of the Malians, who have looked a little unconvincing lately.

Morocco underlined their status as tournament favourites as they began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Comoros. They were made to work hard for the win as goals in each half from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi earned them all three points.

Given the result in the other group game, Morocco now hold a two-point lead at the top of the table and are well placed to progress to the round of 16. That result also extended their world record winning run to 19 matches across all competitions.

Morocco usually impress going forward and have scored over 1.5 goals in their last two matches. Walid Regragui's team have also scored the first goal in the first half in both fixtures. 

Mali News


Mali were held to a 1-1 draw by Zambia in their opening Group A fixture. They missed a penalty in the first half before taking the lead after the break, but were pegged back deep into injury time.

Manager Tom Saintfiet will be disappointed with that result, as they had several chances to put the game away. The Malians were wasteful in attack and will be keen to set things right on Friday. 

The good news for Mali is that the result means they are now unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, the last two fixtures on this run have ended in draws.

Morocco have four wins while Mali have picked up three victories, with two draws in the last nine matches. Both teams met in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, with the Moroccans easing to a 6-0 triumph.

Verdict

Morocco come into this clash with a world record 19 consecutive wins and will be feeling quite confident. They should claim the upper hand over Mali, who are winless in their last two matches.
 
The Moroccans have no problems in attack and, having scored over 1.5 goals in their last two matches, could be set for a repeat. They have also opened the scoring in the first half in their last two matches, and a similar pattern could be on the cards.
