Poland are still in contention to earn a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they travel to Malta for their final Group G fixture in the qualifiers.

Already assured of a playoff place, the Poles need a win on Monday but must also hope for a favour from elsewhere to qualify automatically. They have been in good form lately and can hold up their own end of the bargain against the Maltese, who have nothing to play for.

Malta come into this clash off the back of a surprise 1-0 away victory over Finland in their previous fixture. They laboured for much of the contest, with Jake Grech’s effort nine minutes from time proving the difference.

That was the first win in the qualifiers for Malta, who have struggled to cope with the quality in the group. Emilio De Leo’s team had lost their previous two matches and cannot qualify for next year's tournament.

Malta have struggled to find their rhythm at home lately and are winless in five of their last six matches in front of their fans, losing the last two. They also struggle for goals on home soil, failing to score in four of their last six matches.

Poland were held to a 1-1 home draw by the Netherlands in their previous fixture, with Jakub Kaminski’s first-half effort cancelled out by the visitors. That result leaves them three points off the pace and needing a win on Monday and a defeat for the Dutch, along with a favourable goal swing to qualify.

The Poles must first hold up their own end of the bargain, and they come into this clash in good form, going unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions. Jan Urban's team have picked up six wins on this run, including a 2-0 victory over Lithuania in their previous away fixture.

Poland often make fast starts and have scored the first goal in the first half in their last four matches, while also leading at the break in all four fixtures. They have also won to nil in two of their last three qualifying matches.

Poland have won all four previous matches against Malta and claimed a 2-0 home victory in the reverse fixture back in March.

Poland need to win to keep their hopes alive and will fancy their chances against Malta, who have nothing to play for. The visitors will be targeting a fast start, and having opened the scoring in the first half in their last four matches, could be set for a repeat.

The Poles have led at the break in their last four matches and have also earned a win to nil in two of their last three fixtures. With Malta struggling for goals at home, Monday's clash could be set to follow a similar pattern.
