The Netherlands are aiming to strengthen their grip at the top of Group G in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers when they travel to Malta on Thursday.

The Dutch are unbeaten in this campaign and also boast a dominant record in this fixture. They should be too strong for the visitors, who are struggling to cope with the quality in the group.

Malta head into this clash off the back of a 3-1 victory over San Marino in a friendly back in September. They will be keen to use that result as a spark in the final stages of the qualifiers, having struggled in Group G so far.

It has been a typically poor qualifying campaign for Malta, who are yet to secure a victory after five matches in Group G. Emilio de Leo’s team earned a 1-1 draw at Lithuania in their previous fixture, leaving them bottom of the table.

Malta have enjoyed little home comforts lately and are winless in three of their last four matches across all competitions in front of their fans. They also tend to struggle in attack and have failed to score in those three fixtures.

In contrast to the home team's struggles, the Netherlands have been the dominant force in Group G. They are unbeaten after four matches and sit top of the table on goal difference despite playing a game less than second-placed Poland.

The Netherlands are coming off a 3-2 victory at Lithuania in their previous fixture. That result maintains a perfect away record for Ronald Koeman's team, who have also claimed a 2-0 win at Finland in the previous fixture on their travels.

There have been some dominant results for the Netherlands lately, like the 8-0 home win over Malta in the reverse fixture. They won both halves in that clash and have also held a two-goal lead at the break in two of their four Group G matches.

The Netherlands often dominate this fixture and have won all five previous matches against Malta. The Dutch claimed an 8-0 home victory in the reverse fixture back in June.
