Los Angeles are aiming to maintain the pressure on the frontrunners when they host Atlanta United in a cross-conference MLS clash.

The hosts have impressed in recent weeks and are looking confident heading into this clash. They should have the upper hand over the visitors, who are out of sorts at the moment.

Los Angeles are coming off a 3-0 victory at St Louis City in their previous MLS fixture. Denis Bouanga opened the scoring early in the first half while Son Heung-Min netted a brace to complete the rout.

That was the fourth straight league victory for Los Angeles, who have been one of the form sides in the MLS lately. Steven Cherundolo's team are now up to fourth in the Western Conference, just four points off the pace, and will be keen to maintain their pressure on the leaders.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for Los Angeles, with Bouanga finding the net 23 times in the league this season. Their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals, but they have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of those fixtures.

In contrast to Los Angeles’ fine form, Atlanta are struggling at the moment and are winless in their last three matches. They suffered a 2-0 defeat at the New England Revolution in their previous MLS fixture.

That defeat at New England is part of a poor record on the road for Atlanta United, who are winless in nine of their last 10 away matches across all competitions. Ronny Deila’s team currently sit second from bottom in the Eastern Conference and will be keen to push up the table.

Atlanta United have been hampered by poor defending lately, having failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, they have scored in eight of those 10 fixtures, with five matches on this run producing over 2.5 goals.

Los Angeles and Atlanta United have picked up two wins each and a draw in the last five matches. The hosts claimed a 1-0 away victory in the reverse fixture back in May.
