Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield for an EFL Cup fourth-round clash on Wednesday, with both teams looking to snap out of recent slumps.

Neither team has been at their best lately, with poor defending among their issues this season. They should serve up an open contest here, and goals can be expected.

Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory over Southampton in the previous round, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike getting the goals. However, it has been all downhill since that win, with Arne Slot's team losing five of their last six matches across all competitions.

The Reds will head into Wednesday's clash off the back of a 3-2 Premier League defeat at Brentford last weekend. They were also beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in their previous fixture at Anfield.

The major problem for Liverpool is a lack of discipline at the back, having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine matches across all competitions. Eight of those fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals, while they have scored over 1.5 goals in three of their last four home matches.

Crystal Palace needed penalties before seeing off Championship side Millwall in the previous rounds. Chris Richards’ second-half effort earned them a 1-1 draw in normal time before going on to win the shootout.

However, like the hosts, Crystal Palace have also found things difficult lately, with three defeats and a draw from their last five matches across all competitions. Two of those defeats have come on their travels, including a 1-0 loss at Arsenal in a Premier League fixture last Saturday.

Crystal Palace have struggled to keep things tight at the back lately and are without a clean sheet in their last four matches. However, they have scored in four of their last five away matches, with three of those fixtures producing over 2.5 goals.

The Reds will be keen to give the home fans something to cheer about, and having scored over 1.5 goals in three of their last four home matches, a repeat could be considered. With eight of their last nine matches also producing over 2.5 goals, a similar outcome is expected here.
