Liverpool have opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a move for French striker Hugo Ekitike.

This comes a day after the Reds enquired about the possibility of signing Sweden international Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

According to reports, Newcastle have informed the Premier League champions that Isak, who they value at a minimum of £150 million, is not for sale this summer.

Arne Slot's side are in search of a striker this window and have now turned their attention to Ekitike, rivalling Newcastle, who had a club-record £70m bid rejected by Frankfurt earlier this week.

The 22-year-old initially joined Frankfurt on a six-month loan deal, with an option to buy from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024. The German club, however, made the deal permanent in April 2024 for a reported fee of €16.5m, with the France youth international signing a contract until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Ekitike starred for Frankfurt last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 games across all competitions. He was integral in helping them qualify for the Champions League after a third-place finish in the Bundesliga.
