Chelsea are aiming to bounce back from recent stumbles when they travel to LNER Stadium for an EFL Cup third-round clash against Lincoln City.

The Blues may have stumbled lately, but have a few dominant results under their belt this season. They will be keen to show their superior quality over the League One side.

Lincoln City claimed a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion to secure a place in the third round of the EFL Cup. They laboured for much of the first half before Ben House struck the winner one minute from time.

That result is part of a solid start to the season for Lincoln City, who have only lost once so far. Michael Skubala’s team will head into Tuesday's clash off the back of a 3-1 home victory over Luton Town. 

Lincoln City adopt an open style of play and often look sharp going forward. This style has seen two of their last three matches across all competitions produce over 3.5 goals.

Chelsea were not involved in the previous rounds of the EFL Cup and are set to make their first appearance in the competition. They have looked off colour lately, losing their last two matches, including a 2-1 Premier League defeat at Manchester United last Saturday. 

The positive for Chelsea is that they had earned some good results prior to those two defeats and will be keen to find their rhythm again. Enzo Maresca's team have shown some dominance this season with a 5-1 victory at West Ham among their results.

Chelsea's open style of play has seen three of their last five matches across all competitions produce over 1.5 goals in the first half. Four of those five fixtures have also served up over 3.5 goals.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Lincoln City and Chelsea.

Verdict

Lincoln City may be showing some good form this season, but a clash against Chelsea represents a steep upgrade in quality of opposition. The Blues will be keen to replicate the 5-1 victory over West Ham and could be backed in the handicap market.

Four of Chelsea’s last five matches have produced over 3.5 goals, while three of those fixtures have also served up over 1.5 first-half goals. With both teams often preferring an open style of play, Tuesday's clash is expected to offer up a similar outcome.
