It is the first Rome derby of the season as bitter rivals Lazio and Roma square off in an Italian Serie A fixture on Sunday.

Although both teams have had contrasting starts to the season, their meetings are always a fiery affair. Neither attack has shown much quality this season, and goals are likely to come at a premium in this clash.

Lazio head into this clash off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo last time out in Serie A. Despite seeing much of the possession, they struggled to find their rhythm in attack and created few scoring opportunities.

That result continues a poor start to the season for Lazio, who have lost two of their opening three Serie A matches. However, their only win this term has come at the Stadio Olimpico, a 4-0 victory over Verona.

The result against Verona appears to be an outlier for Lazio, who have struggled going forward lately. Four of the last five matches across all competitions for Maurizio Sarri's team have produced under 2.5 goals.

Roma News

Roma are coming off a shock 1-0 home defeat to Torino in their previous Serie A fixture. They saw more of the possession but struggled to break down the stubborn visitors.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be disappointed with the result and will target a swift return to winning ways, as Roma had been victorious in their previous two matches. The Giallorossi have also won at least one half in two of their three matches this season.

While Roma have fared a bit better than their rivals, they have shown similar attacking issues, with their three matches so far producing under 2.5 goals. All three fixtures have also served up under 1.5 goals in both halves.

Lazio have five wins while Roma have earned four victories, with three draws in the last 12 matches. However, the visitors were unbeaten last season, winning 2-0 at home before a 1-1 away draw in the reverse fixture.

The Rome derby is usually a feisty and cagey affair, and the last seven matches have produced under 2.5 goals. Five of those fixtures have also served up under 1.5 goals in both halves, and Sunday’s clash could be set to follow a similar pattern.

Roma are looking a bit more settled than their rivals and will be feeling confident ahead of this one. Having won at least one half in two of their three matches, a repeat could be on the cards here.
