Lazio are aiming to bounce back from a home defeat last time out as they host Fiorentina in a midweek Italian Serie A fixture.

The Capital club are generally solid at home, having picked up some key wins at the Stadio Olimpico. They should get the better of the visitors, who are enduring a difficult campaign.

Lazio are coming off a 2-0 home defeat to Napoli in their previous Serie A fixture. That was the first defeat in six matches across all competitions for Maurizio Sarri's team, who have shown some good form lately. 

The task for Lazio will be to get things back on track, having gone on a seven-match unbeaten run at home prior to the defeat to Napoli. They picked up some key results on this run like the 1-0 wins over AC Milan and Juventus.

Lazio appear to be driven by a solid defence that has kept clean sheets in five of their last seven home matches. However, they have shown some attacking quality and have scored first in five of those seven fixtures.

Fiorentina have been well below their best this season, with just two wins in 18 Serie A matches. They are currently second from bottom in the table, three points from safety and will be keen to spark a resurgence. 

La Viola will head into this clash looking to build on a 1-0 home victory over Cremonese in their previous Serie A fixture. However, they have been abysmal on their travels and are winless in their last seven away matches, suffering six defeats on this run. 

One of the issues troubling Fiorentina this season is a lack of cutting edge in attack. Paolo Vanoli's team have failed to score in three of their last four away matches across all competitions.

Lazio have seven wins while Fiorentina have picked up four victories, with one draw from the last 12 matches. However, the visitors claimed a 2-1 away victory in the most recent meeting last January.

Verdict

It has been a disappointing season for Fiorentina, and it does not appear to be getting better. They should struggle against Lazio, who have done some good work on home soil this season.
 
Lazio have scored first in five of their last seven home matches and could be set for a repeat. Having key clean sheets in five of those seven fixtures and with Fiorentina failing to score in three of their last four away fixtures, the hosts could be set to earn a win to nil here.
