Juventus are seeking their first win in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League as they host Sporting CP on matchday four.

The Turin club appear to be coming into some new manager bounce and will be keen to carry that form into the competition. Meanwhile, the visitors are showing some good form lately but often find things difficult against the Italians, who are likely to claim the upper hand here.

It has been a poor start to the Champions League for Juventus, who are winless in two of their three matches so far, losing 1-0 at Real Madrid last time out. A change was desperately required, and manager Igor Tudor paid the price, with Luciano Spalletti the new man at the helm.

Juventus now appear to be turning a corner since Tudor’s departure, winning their last two matches. Spalletti also led the Turin club to a 2-1 Serie A victory at Cremonese in his first game in charge.

Among the positives for Juventus is that they are unbeaten at home this season and have scored in five of their last six matches at Allianz Stadium. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of the last five home matches, while their last two fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.

Sporting CP News

Sporting CP have reasons to be pleased with their campaign so far, winning two of their three league phase matches. They claimed a 2-1 home victory over Marseille in their previous fixture.

The Portuguese side’s overall form has been solid, winning their last four matches across all competitions, including a 2-0 home victory over Alverca in a domestic fixture last weekend. However, their only defeat in the Champions League came in Italy, a 2-1 loss to Napoli.

Sporting CP have quality going forward, but often look shaky at the back, a trait that has seen them score and concede in their three Champions League matches. All three fixtures for Rui Borges' team have also produced over 2.5 goals.

Juventus have two wins and two draws, while Sporting CP have only picked up one victory in five previous matches. Both teams met in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League in 2023, with the hosts winning 1-0 at home before holding out for a 1-1 away draw in the second leg.

Neither defence has been convincing lately, and both teams could be backed to score on Tuesday. With all three of Sporting CP’s Champions League matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat is also expected here.

Juventus will be feeling confident heading into this clash as they look to carry their new manager bounce into the Champions League. They should claim the upper hand over Sporting CP, who have already lost in Italy this season.
