Inter vs Napoli Tips & Preview - Inter Look To Bounce Back After Dismal Champions League Elimination

Inter Milan are sitting comfortably at the top of the 2023-24 Serie A table with a 16-point cushion over second-placed AC Milan. They next welcome last year’s Italian champions Napoli, to the San Siro on Sunday. Both teams head into this tie, having faced losses in the Champions League knockouts this week. 

Spanish side Atletico Madrid ousted Inter on penalties (5-3), and the Italians will look to return to winning ways in the domestic league. They have the most formidable defence in the league this season, having conceded just 13 goals with 10 games left to play. Lautaro Martinez is in amazing form and is the top goalscorer with 23 goals under his belt so far. 

On the other hand, last year’s title-winners, Napoli, look nowhere close to the team they were. Despite winning the title under coach Simone Inzaghi, the team are placed seventh in the league, four points short of the top four. While Inter head into this encounter with one loss and four wins in five games, Napoli come in with just two wins, drawing two and losing one in their last five.

This is a must-win game for Napoli, as Inzaghi’s future as their coach hangs on the line. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last matches, and they face Inter, who are number one in goals scored and clean sheets kept (18) this season.

All the stats point towards an Inter victory, who are sailing away to the Serie A title this year. There will be no bookies vouching for a Napoli win. In the last five meetings between these two clubs, Napoli have recorded just one victory to Inter’s three. 

Inter have not lost a single game at the San Siro this season, are on a nine-game winning streak in the Serie A heading into this clash and are pegged to extend that run to ten comfortably.
