Inter Milan vs Fluminense

A place in the quarter finals is the prize as Inter Milan battle Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16.

The Nerazzurri have constantly improved as the tournament progressed and will come into this clash full of confidence. While it is likely to be a closely fought encounter, the Italians are expected to have the upper hand over their rivals, who have only won once in the US.

Inter Milan Form

Inter Milan appear to have put their UEFA Champions League disappointment behind them and seem to be thriving under manager Cristian Chivu. They qualified for the round of 16 with an unbeaten record in Group E, claiming two wins and a draw from their three matches, to finish top of the standings.

The Nerazzurri seem to be getting better as the tournament progresses as they went on to win their last two matches after playing out a 1-1 draw with Monterrey in their opening match. They claimed a 2-0 victory over River Plate in their previous fixture.

Inter Milan have scored in every match in the Club World Cup, including the opener in the last fixture. However, they seem to always take a while to get going, with four of their five goals in the competition coming after the break.

Fluminense Form

The Club World Cup has been a good tournament for the Brazilian sides and Fluminense are one of four teams in the quarter-finals. They finished second in Group D behind German club Borussia Dortmund.

Fluminense finished the group stage unbeaten, although they only picked up one win from their three matches. They head into the quarter-finals off the back of a 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in their final fixture in the first round.

Renato Gaucho's team have not been particularly impressive going forward, failing to score in two of their three matches in the competition. Their only goals came in the 4-2 victory over Ulsan HD in their second group fixture, with three of those efforts coming after the break.

This will be the first ever meeting between Inter Milan and Fluminense.

Inter Milan have gotten better as this tournament has gone on, winning their last two matches. Having opened the scoring in their previous fixture, they should grab the opening goal in this one on their way to claiming the victory.

Four of Inter Milan's five goals in the competition have come after the break while Fluminense have a similar pattern with three of their four efforts. With both teams often taking a while to turn up, the second half could be set to produce more goals.
