France will be looking to maintain their perfect record in Group D of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers when they travel to Iceland for a Monday night fixture.

The French have been superior to everyone in the Group and also boast a solid record in this fixture. They should have the upper hand over the hosts, who are out of sorts at the moment.

Iceland News

Iceland are coming off a 5-3 home defeat to Ukraine in their previous qualifying fixture. Albert Gudmundsson netted a brace while Mikael Ellertson was also on target, but they were ultimately let down by some poor defending.

That was the second straight defeat for Iceland following a 2-1 loss to France in their previous fixture. Home form has also been lacking for Arnar Gunnlaugsson’s team, who have lost three of their last four matches in front of their fans.

While Iceland often show attacking quality, their major problem is a lack of discipline at the back, as evidenced by the defeat to Ukraine. Eight of their last 10 matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

France News

In contrast to Iceland's struggles, France are the top dogs in Group C. Didier Deschamps' team have won all three of their matches and already hold a five-point lead at the top of the table.

France eased to a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan last time out, with Kylian Mbappe, Adrien Rabiot and Florian Thauvin getting the goals. The 2018 World Cup winners have also earned some solid results on their travels, winning five of their last seven away matches.

Driven by a prolific attack, France often impress going forward and have scored in both halves in their last four matches across all competitions. They have also led at the break in three of those fixtures, while four of their last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Head to Head

France usually claim the upper hand in this fixture and are unbeaten in the last 10 matches against Iceland. The French have picked up eight wins on this run, including a 2-1 home victory in the reverse fixture back in September.

Verdict

France are levels above everyone in the group and having already beaten Iceland, will be confident of completing the double. The visitors have earned a win and over 2.5 goals in their last two matches, and a similar outcome is expected here.

Having won the first half in three of their last four matches, a repeat could be on the cards here. Given their attacking quality, the French could also be backed to score in both halves for the fifth straight game.
