Hungary host the Republic of Ireland in their final Group F fixture in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers, with both teams still in contention.

A victory for either side will guarantee at least a playoff place, while the other group game holds huge significance for automatic qualification. However, the Irish have struggled on their recent travels, and the Hungarians are likely to claim the upper hand.

Hungary have enjoyed a decent qualifying campaign, with two wins and as many draws from their five matches so far. They are also unbeaten in five of their last six matches across all competitions and claimed a 1-0 away victory over Armenia in their previous fixture.

Sitting second in the table, two points off the pace, Hungary are still in the race for automatic qualification. However, Marco Rossi's team must win on Sunday and hope for a Portugal defeat at home to Armenia.

The first task for Hungary is to get the win on Sunday, and they will be keen to maintain their recent fast starts, having scored first in their last five matches across all competitions. They have also scored at least one first-half goal in four of those fixtures.

The Republic of Ireland kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup with a 2-0 home victory over Portugal in their previous fixture. A first-half brace from Troy Parrott was enough to seal the win as they held on for all three points.

The result means Ireland are now one point behind Hungary and three off leaders Portugal. Like the hosts, Heimir Hallgrimsson's team need a win on Sunday and will hope for a Portugal defeat, with a four-goal swing across both matches.

While the task appears straightforward for Ireland, their recent away form does not inspire much confidence. They are winless in five of their last six matches on their travels across all competitions, suffering four defeats on this run, including successive away losses in the qualifiers.
