It is a battle of the top two in the Scottish Premiership as leaders Hearts host second-placed Celtic on Sunday.

The hosts are aiming to extend their lead at the top of the table, while the visitors will be keen to maintain their resurgence under the new manager. Both teams should be up for this one and are likely to serve up a thrilling encounter.

Hearts News

Hearts have taken full advantage of Rangers and Celtic’s problems this season and hold a six-point lead at the top of their table. Derek McInnes’ team are fully deserving of their place at the top, having gone unbeaten in 20 of their 22 League matches so far.

The Jam Tarts lost on penalties to Falkirk in the Scottish Cup last weekend after being held to a 1-1 home draw. However, they are unbeaten in their last nine home matches and claimed a 2-0 victory over St Mirren last time out in the Premiership.

Claudio Braga has nine Premiership goals this season is expected to step up for the injured Laurence Shankland. He should lead an attack that has scored first in their last nine home matches in the league, although they are without a clean sheet in four of the last six fixtures on this run.

Celtic News

Celtic remain unbeaten since the return of Martin O’Neill and have now moved to within six points of the leaders. They claimed a 1-0 victory at Falkirk last time out in the Premiership before holding out for a 2-2 draw at Bologna in the Europa League.

Both results are part of a solid away run in the last few weeks for Celtic. The reigning champions will travel to Tynecastle Park unbeaten in four of their last five away matches across all competitions.

Goals are unlikely to be a problem for Celtic, who have scored in nine of their last 10 away matches. However, they are without a clean sheet in seven of the last nine fixtures on this run.

Head to Head

Celtic have eight wins while Hearts have picked up four victories in the last 12 matches. However, the hosts have won the last two meetings and earned a 2-1 away victory in the last clash back in December.

Verdict

Hearts have already beaten Celtic twice this season and will be feeling confident heading into this clash. Having also gone unbeaten in their last nine Premiership home matches, the hosts could be backed to earn a win or draw here.

It is usually an open contest between Hearts and Celtic, and with both sides extra fired up for this one, they could be backed to score here. The hosts have also scored first in their last nine home matches, and that trend is likely to continue on Sunday.
