Ivory Coast are eyeing a place in the knockout stage of the AFCON as they face Gabon at the Stade de Marrakech in their final Group F fixture.

The Elephants need only to avoid defeat on Wednesday, but will be targeting a win to secure top spot. They should have the edge over the Panthers, who have endured a disappointing campaign so far.

Gabon News

Gabon come into this clash off the back of a 3-2 defeat to Mozambique in their previous fixture. Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Moucketou-Moussonda were both on target as they fell just short of a fightback after going two goals down.

That was the second straight defeat for Gabon, who were beaten 1-0 by Cameroon in their opening fixture and are bottom of the group. However, Thierry Mouyouma’s team are not down and out yet as a win on Wednesday could give them a chance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Beyond the AFCON, Gabon’s overall form has been suspect, with just two wins from their last six matches across all competitions. Two of their last four matches have also produced more goals after the break.

Ivory Coast News

Ivory Coast are coming off a 1-1 draw with Cameroon in their previous fixture. After a drab first half, they struck first through Amad Diallo but were unable to hold on as Ghislain Konan put through his own net.

The result means Ivory Coast remain unbeaten in the group, having begun their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Mozambique. Emerse Fae’s team are second in the table and can qualify for the round of 16 with a draw on Wednesday.

Ivory Coast have a habit of growing into games and have scored both their goals at this tournament after the break. The second half has also produced more goals in their two matches in Group F.

Head to Head

Ivory Coast have four wins and two draws while Gabon have been victorious just once in the last seven matches. Both teams met during the 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with the Ivorians winning 1-0 at home before holding out for a 0-0 away draw in the reverse fixture.

Verdict

Gabon need a win on Wednesday to stay alive in the competition and are likely to be fired up for this one. However, the Ivory Coast have looked solid so far and given their record in this fixture, should claim the upper hand here.

Ivory Coast have scored both their goals in Group F after the break and could be backed to score at least one second-half goal on Wednesday. With both teams often seeing more second-half goals, it could be tipped as the highest-scoring half.
