Feyenoord are looking to bounce back from a match-day one defeat when they host Aston Villa in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.

The Villans appear to be slowly picking up their form in recent weeks, but remain unconvincing on their travels. Meanwhile, the hosts often do their best work in front of their fans and can do enough to avoid defeat on Thursday.

Feyenoord suffered a 1-0 defeat at Braga in their opening League phase fixture. They held their own for much of the contest and looked to be headed for a draw before conceding the winner late in the second half.

Manager Robin Van Persie will consider that result a minor blip as Feyenoord have won five of their last seven matches and claimed a 1-0 Eredivisie victory at Groningen last weekend. Aston Villa began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Bologna in their opening fixture. That was the first win of the season across all competitions for Unai Emery's team, who have found things difficult so far.

The Villans appear to be finding their feet again after a slow start and followed up the Europa League win with a 3-1 home victory over Fulham in the Premier League last Sunday. However, some improvement is required in their form on the road, having failed to win their last four away matches across all competitions.

Aston Villa also appear to be rediscovering their attacking rhythm, having scored four goals in their last two matches. However, their defending still needs some work as they are without a clean sheet in three of their last four away matches.

Feyenoord and Aston Villa have only met once before, with the English side claiming a 3-1 victory in a preseason friendly back in 2010.

Aston Villa appear to be slowly coming into their own, but will face a tough task against an in-form Feyenoord side. The Dutch team have been victorious in their last three home matches and can earn a win or draw in this clash.

Neither defence has been convincing lately, and both teams could be backed to score here. Having won at least one half in their last three home matches, Feyenoord could be set for a similar pattern here.
