Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has been handed a one-year prison term by a Spanish court for tax fraud.

Ancelotti, who allegedly committed the offence during his first tenure as Real Madrid manager in 2014, has also been fined €386,000 ($452,187). He escapes any jail time, as the sentence is less than two years, and he has no criminal record.

The 66-year-old was alleged to have defrauded the state of $1 million in 2014 and 2015, with prosecutors initially seeking up to four years and nine months' prison sentence on two counts of tax fraud.

The Italian manager, last March, was accused of creating shell companies to hide his earnings during his first spell at Real Madrid. He, however, denied intentionally committing fraud, claiming ignorance of such a scheme.

The court also cleared Ancelotti of the fraud allegation for the 2015 tax year. He won three titles with Los Blancos in the previous year, leading them to victory in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

The former AC Milan and Chelsea boss was appointed by Brazil on a one-year deal and won his first game as Selecao coach against Paraguay on June 10.
