A place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs as Egypt battle Benin in an Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash at Stade Adrar.

Driven by a sturdy defence, the North Africans remain unbeaten in the competition and will be feeling confident heading into this clash. They should be too strong for the Squirrels, who have been unconvincing in the tournament.

Egypt News

Egypt have enjoyed a solid campaign so far and underlined their status as the favourites in Group B. Hossam Hassan’s team went unbeaten in the group to finish top, two points above South Africa.

Having won their opening two group matches, Egypt made wholesale changes to the squad for their final fixture. The Pharaohs will head into this clash off the back of a 0-0 draw with Angola in their final group game.

Egypt’s campaign appears to be driven by a solid defence that has kept clean sheets in their last two matches. Those two fixtures have also produced under 1.5 goals in both halves.

Benin News

Benin scraped through to the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. Gernot Rohr's team only won their second Group B fixture, a 1-0 victory over Botswana.

The Squirrels are coming off a 3-0 defeat to Senegal in their final group stage clash. That result extends a poor run that began before the AFCON, having lost four of their last five matches across all competitions.

One of the problems for Benin is a lack of cutting-edge in attack, which has seen them fail to score in four of their last five matches across all competitions. Two of the last three fixtures on this run have produced under 1.5 goals in both halves.

Head to Head

Egypt have a superior record in this fixture, earning three wins and a draw from four previous matches against Benin. The last meeting was an AFCON 2010 clash, with the Pharaohs claiming a 2-0 victory.

Verdict

Egypt are driven by a solid defence while Benin are struggling to find their cutting edge going forward. The North Africans are expected to keep a clean sheet and also secure a win to nil in Monday's clash.

Both teams have not looked particularly sharp in attack and have played out a few low-scoring outcomes in this tournament. Both halves are likely to produce under 1.5 goals in this clash.
