Club Brugge vs Monaco Tips & Preview - French side to make strong start
- Club Brugge excelled in UCL qualifiers but are struggling domestically.
- Monaco arrive in good form, strong in attack but weak in defense.
- Expect both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, and Monaco to win a half.

Club Brugge vs Monaco
Club Brugge and Monaco square off on matchday one in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, with both teams targeting a strong start.
The hosts have been out of sorts in the opening weeks of the Belgian Jupiler League. They are likely to find things difficult against the French side, who are looking sharp at the moment.
Club Brugge News
Club Brugge came through the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and won all four of their matches. Nicky Hayen's team did the double over Rangers in the playoffs, earning a 3-1 away win in the first meeting before easing to a 6-0 home victory in the reverse fixture.
However, Club Brugge have failed to replicate that form on the domestic scene as they are winless in their opening two Jupiler League matches. They will head into Thursday's clash off the back of a 1-0 defeat at RAAL La Louviere last Saturday.
Club Brugge will be keen to recapture their form from the qualifiers, where they scored in all four matches, with the last three producing over 2.5 goals. However, the Belgians have been a bit unconvincing at the back and are without a clean sheet in three of their last four matches across all competitions.
Monaco News
Monaco earned a direct berth into the league phase of the Champions League after finishing third in the French Ligue 1 last term. They will be looking to improve on last season’s showings, having crashed in the knockout playoffs.
The French club will come into Thursday's clash having won three of their last four matches, winning at least one half in all three fixtures. Adi Hutter's team claimed a 2-1 victory at Auxerre in a Ligue 1 fixture last weekend.
Monaco’s open style often leaves them exposed at the back, and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in all four of their matches this season. However, they have scored in three of those fixtures, which have also produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Club Brugge have two wins while Monaco have picked up one victory, with one draw from four previous matches. The Belgians claimed a 4-0 away win in the last meeting between both teams during the 2018-19 Champions League.
Verdict
Neither defence has shown much quality this season and both teams could be backed to score here. With three of Monaco's last four matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat could be considered.
Monaco are playing well this season and will be feeling confident against Club Brugge, who are winless in their last two matches. Having won at least one half in three of their last four matches, the French side could be set for a similar pattern here.
