Chelsea Women vs Paris FC Women
Chelsea host Paris FC in the league phase of the UEFA Women's Champions League, with both teams seeking their first win in the competition.
The Blues are back home, where they often do their best work, and will be feeling confident heading into Wednesday's clash. They also boast a fine record against the French side and should claim the upper hand once again.
Chelsea Women News
Chelsea began their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Twente. Following a drab first half, they took the lead after the break through Danique van Ginkel, but failed to hold on and were pegged back by the Dutch side.
While it was a disappointing start to the competition, Chelsea will be pleased to have avoided defeat as they are yet to lose across all competitions this season. They have also won all three of their home matches, including a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in a WSL clash last weekend.
While things are fairly solid for Chelsea this season, they tend to make slow starts and often come to life after the break. The last two matches for Sonia Bompastor's team have produced more goals in the second half.
Paris FC Women Form
Paris also played out a draw in their opening fixture, having been held 2-2 at home by Leuven. They held a two-goal lead at the break thanks to efforts from Daphne Corboz and Clara Mateo, but were pegged back in the second half.
That result means Paris are now winless as in their last two matches having suffered a 3-1 defeat at Nantes in a domestic fixture. However, that has been their only defeat this season, while Sandrine Soubeyrand’s team had also won their previous three away matches.
Paris FC have been involved in a number of high-scoring matches lately and like the hosts, often find their rhythm after the break. Two of their last three away matches across all competitions have produced more second-half goals.
Head to Head
Chelsea have won the only two previous meetings, doing the double over Paris in the 2023-24 season. The hosts claimed a 4-0 home victory before earning a 4-1 away win in the second clash.
Verdict
Chelsea will be keen to find their rhythm and given their dominant record against Paris, will be feeling confident on Wednesday. Having claimed comfortable wins in the two meetings against the French side, a handicap bet for the hosts could be considered.
The Blues have scored over 2.5 goals in their two matches against Paris and could be set for a repeat here. With both teams often leaving things late, the second half is likely to produce more goals.
