It is a heavyweight clash in the English Premier League as Chelsea welcome champions Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Both teams have been dealt heavy blows in recent weeks and will be keen to get their campaigns back on track. One of the problems has been the shaky backlines, which could ensure there are goals in this clash.

It has been a difficult few weeks for Chelsea, who have lost their last two Premier League matches. First, they were beaten 2-1 at Manchester United before suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton last time out. 

A major issue for Chelsea lately is a lack of discipline, having had a player sent off in three of their last four matches across all competitions. However, they will head into Saturday's clash with some positivity after claiming a 1-0 home victory over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League. 

Chelsea are without a clean sheet in five of their last six matches across all competitions, although they have scored in four of those fixtures. Four matches on this run have produced over 2.5 goals, with two of the last three outings also serving up over 1.5 goals after the break.

Liverpool’s campaign appears to have hit a snag in recent weeks, having lost their last two matches. First, they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace last time out in the Premier League before falling 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League. 

Arne Slot has not experienced this sort of rough patch since becoming Liverpool manager and will be keen to get back on track. One positive for the Reds is that they are still two points clear at the top of the table.

Among the problems for Liverpool is that they appear to be conceding more this season and are without a clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions. However, they have scored in four of those fixtures, all of which have produced over 2.5 goals, while two of the last three games have served up over 1.5 second-half goals.

Liverpool have three wins while Chelsea have claimed two victories, with both teams battling to seven draws in the last 12 matches. Both sides won their home clash last season, with the Reds winning 2-1 at Anfield while Chelsea triumphed 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Verdict

Chelsea and Liverpool will be keen to get things back on track and are likely to be fired up for this one. Both teams have scored in three of their last four meetings, which have produced over 2.5 goals, and a repeat could be considered here.
