CFR Cluj hosts Paks in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League qualifier, with the tie still in the balance following a 0-0 draw in the first meeting.

The Romanians have the superior experience in European competition and also boast a fine record at home. They should get the better of the visitors, who are expected to find things difficult on Thursday.

CFR Cluj will feel they should have secured the advantage after looking the better side in the first leg. They saw more of the possession and created chances, but could not find the breakthrough.

Manager Dan Petrescu will consider that result a blip and look to set things right on Thursday, with CFR Cluj unbeaten in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions. They also do their best work in front of their fans, kicking off the Romanian Superliga last weekend with a 2-1 home victory over Unirea Slobozia.

The goals often flow at home for CFR Cluj, who have scored over 1.5 goals in five of their last eight matches across all competitions. They have also won the first half in three of their last four home fixtures.

Paks do not boast much experience in European competition and only have three previous campaigns on the continent. They reached the UEFA Conference League playoffs last season before losing to Mlada Boleslav.

The Hungarians were second best in the first leg against Cluj but will take the positives from holding out for a goalless draw. With the domestic league on break, Gyorgy Bognar’s team have been playing friendlies lately, claiming a 4-0 victory over Ivancsa last weekend to end a two-match winless run.

Paks generally adopt an open style of play which often sees their matches serve up goals. Six of their last eight matches across all competitions have produced over 1.5 goals.

CFR Cluj will come into this clash keen to set things right after failing to claim the advantage in the first leg despite looking the better side. They should have the upper hand here and having earned a win and over 1.5 goals in their last four matches, a repeat is expected here.

The Romanians will also be keen to set the tone early in the contest and should win the first half as they have done in three of their last four home matches.
