Celtic begin their Scottish Premiership title defence with a home clash against St Mirren on Sunday.

The champions remain the dominant force in Scotland and also boast a solid record in this fixture. They should be too strong for the visitors, who have a reputation as bad travellers.

Celtic News

It was a solid campaign for Celtic last season as they won their fourth straight Scottish Premiership title. There has been little transfer activity at Celtic Park this summer, with Kieran Tierney's arrival as a free transfer their biggest deal so far.

Despite the lack of acquisitions, Celtic still looked solid in preseason, winning four of their last seven matches and playing out a 1-1 draw with Al Ahli SC in their final warm-up game. Manager Brendan Rodgers will be confident of a strong start in front of their fans, having won 12 of their last 15 home matches across all competitions.

Celtic are often make fast starts and have won the first half in four of their last five home matches across all competitions. They have also scored in both halves in all four fixtures, winning both halves three times on this run.

St Mirren News

There were a few positives for St Mirren last season as they made it to the championship round in the second phase. However, they struggled to replicate their form from the first phase and finished bottom of the table.

One thing that hampered St Mirren last season was a poor away record, as they often struggle on their travels. They are winless in four of their last five Premiership matches on the road.

Despite their struggles on the road, St Mirren will still head into the season opener with some confidence, having looked solid in preseason. Stephen Robinson’s team have won six of their last seven matches across all competitions and claimed a 2-1 victory over Ayr in a Scottish League Cup clash last weekend.

Head to Head

Celtic often dominate this fixture and have picked up 10 wins and two draws from the last 12 matches against St Mirren. The champions picked up a 3-0 home win in the first meeting last season before a 1-1 draw back in May.

Verdict

Celtic often make light work of St Mirren and have won the first half in three of the last four meetings. The Champions have also scored in both halves in those three fixtures, and this clash should follow a similar pattern.

Having also won both halves in three of the last four matches against St Mirren, Celtic are expected to see out a similar result on Sunday.
